CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Deadline: June 30th 2021.

Addressees: researchers interested in the study of the Ancient World in any of the following areas of expertise: Classics, Linguistics, Ancient History and Archaeology (other proposals might still be considered). Open to master students, PhD students and newly PhD researchers.

Papers must not exceed the 15-minutes limit and they'll be followed by a brief discussion. Abstracts, of no more than 300 words, are accepted in Spanish, English, Italian, French and Portuguese. Please, use the form available below and send it to jiima.uam@gmail.com.

Themes:
Nature in sources: representations of nature in ancient sources and Arts; its legacy from Antiquity to modern times.
Nature and humanity: nature as socio-economic determinant in Antiquity; the relationship between human being and nature; women and nature; the dichotomy between natural spaces and anthropic spaces; nature as reason for conflicts or alliances.
Ecology in/and Antiquity: (non-)sustainable use of natural resources; natural disasters and ecological emergencies; modern ecology and the Ancient World.
Perceiving nature: nature in linguistic expression; nature in language; creatures, myths, and legends of nature; magic and nature; utopic nature.
Knowing nature: the study of nature in Antiquity; ancient zoology, botany, physics, and astronomy.
Nature and health: plagues and pandemics in Antiquity; medical science in the Ancient World and its legacy; natural medicine and healing nature.
